Food Preserving Demonstration - Jams, Jellies and Whole Fruit Canning
11:30 - 12:30 Free

Making room for winter greens?
Come to the farm stand at Otow Orchard for a selection of organic seedlings for your garden beginning mid-September :
Broccoli
Lettuce Mixes
Arugula
Kale Mixes
Red Bok Choy
Bunching Onions

Wondergrow compost is also available by the bag.

Quick Planning Tips for September
Order garlic and onions for delivery.
Add compost and organic fertilizer before planting into your fall beds.
Plant flowers and bulbs to enjoy now and for a beautiful spring show.
Time your successions of lettuce more closely for fall. With shorter days, the greens will take longer to mature.
Compost, compost, compost - Use all that green garden "waste" and fall leaves to create black gold. You'll be grateful in the spring you did.

In the Demonstration Gardens

Alison and Julie have been picking and preserving every way that we know how. Tomatoes have become jars of salsa and marinara sauce, cucumbers are now pickles, eggplant, beans and okra have been vacuum sealed and frozen. Peaches and asian pears have been dried for tasty treats for the kids.

With such a bountiful summer, the tall tomato plants and cucumber vines are ready to hand over their place in the beds to broccoli, garlic and winter grains. Soon you will see brassica seedlings and our favorite root veggies nestle into their beds.
